Catching up from July!

I feel like there is so much to share.. I don’t know where to begin! I guess the best place to start is with something new. The newest thing on the homestead would be baby ducks! One of our three broody mamas has hatched out 4 ducklings so far. She’s setting on eleven eggs, so I suspect she will be hatching out many more over the next few days. We put up a fence around the broody mamas so they can raise their baby’s in peace. I suspect we’re going to be over run with them in the next few weeks.  While we’re on the topic of animals, I am happy to report that the ugly red trailer is now no longer a part of the animals paddock. They have houses of their own! The goat halo use was finished last month. And now the chicken lean-to has been constructed!  We are just waiting on some sheet metal for the roof and then it will be complete! The chicken house includes a two part door. There is a small hatch at the bottom to only let chickens in. This makes returning to fermenting the...

Today was Father Day! We had a leisure day, the guys didn’t work their butts off all day which is the first. We stay pretty busy so a complete day off is weird.  Yesterday the guys finished the goat house! It has a few finishing touches to fix but it’s fantastic! The goats are out of the drafty trailer. And the chickens now have more room to roost at night. Sig also has more places to hang out while he’s on duty at night because we can leave the big part of the trailer open. So everyone is moving up in the world just a bit.  Next order of business in the animal world is a guinea house and a lean-to for the chickens. Then the big red trailer will be completely out of the picture! While the trailer has been a place holder and housed the animals when we arrived, I have been itching to get them out of there. They have been sleeping and laying eggs underneath and we even had one of our roosters crawl under there and die. So that trailer needs to go! We can't monitor their hea...

June 8th

Well we have hit the month of June. Time is flying by and as per usual we don't know what day it is. I just changed the time zone on my phone so that I could just finally stick with one time zone and not be confused all the time. Our property is in two time zones....so if you are carrying your phone it will go back and forth and you will defiantly be late for dinner!      Rain is still a major buzz kill. I feel like I live on the coast or the valley minus the gorgeous ocean to make up for the horrendous precipitation. The other day we had a river running through our road again...and days later its still running down our road. All progress on gravel has halted, we have had to rush to get another green house going. So the road into the property has had to remain a mud hole. Hopefully summer will give us a reprieve from the hell that is this mud.      Our current green house is gorgeous! There is green stuff everywhere...
